Mayor and City Council
The City Council consists of the Mayor and four Council members. The Council is empowered with the authority to enter into contracts, enact ordinances and policies to protect the rights of the citizens of the community, and to adopt tax rates and fees for services provided to the citizens.

The Eagle Pass City Council hold regular meetings on the first Tuesday of each month. They begin at 5:30 PM and all department heads attend to be able to address any questions or concerns of the council or citizens in the audience according to their respective departments. Special meetings are held as called.
City Council Meetings are broadcast live on Channel 14 Time Warner every first Tuesday of the month starting at 5:30 PM. All Special Meetings are also broadcast live on Channel 14 on the day it was scheduled, usually a Tuesday also starting at 5:30 PM.
The City Charter provides that the City Council shall be elected from the City at large for a term of four (4) years. At the General Election of May 2011, Council Members for Places 1 and 3, shall run for a term of three (3) years. In the General Election of May 2012, the Mayor and Council Members for Places 2 and 4, shall run for a term of four (4) years. Thereafter, elections shall be held every two (2) years and each Council Member shall be elected for a term of four years. No person shall be elected for more than two (2) consecutive four-year terms. Municipal elections are held in May of every odd numbered year.
